Review: Last Man Standing Season 7 Episode 14: “Sibling Quibbling”

This is the second episode to last week’s one-hour bloc of Last Man Standing episodes last Friday.

The episode is all about Mandy and Kyle combining their finances since they are a married couple now. On top of that, Kristin starts fighting Ed about store security. Ed wants to make some changes to the security of Outdoor Man while Chuck is away with Carol on their honeymoon.

When the episode begins, it’s funny how Mandy and Kyle keep emphasizing the word “bank.” I don’t know if this is done to give them attention or if they are doing it just be silly, but it was both funny and annoying. I don’t know how to explain that one.

Also, I like how Kyle comments about how he screamed The Da Vinci Code book to a bunch of blind people even though they can hear just fine. I’m sorry, that’s just pure hilariousness there.

It is eventually revealed a few minutes later that Mandy finds out that Kyle has been giving some of his money to his brother, Lonnie. We have not heard much about Lonnie, but from that it appears, he seems like a guy who can’t keep a job and is nothing but muscle, but not much for smarts.

It is also revealed during this part of the show that Vanessa is still giving money to her sister April. April has been on the show at least a couple of times. She is not very responsible, but Vanessa still feels as though she is responsible or obligated to help her out even though April does not help herself.

This upsets Mike, where he goes to the garage and works on his truck, which is something he is known to do when he stressed or has a lot on his mind.

However, out of nowhere, Lonnie shows up. To be honest, I thought it was going to be one of those scenes where Lonnie finds out about some of the stuff that Mike has told Kyle over the years and that Lonnie might try and take a swing at Mike. The exact opposite happens. They try and find a way to come to terms with who they are and end it all with a respectable handshake, and Mike says he is willing to help Lonnie find a job there in Denver.

For series story reasons, it was good to hear about Lonnie’s upbringing and how Lonnie and Kyle’s dad was really hard on Lonnie. Since Kyle was born after their father had left, Kyle was never beaten and bullied the same way Lonnie was. Needless to say, Lonnie has not had an easy life.

Mike says at the end that he is okay with his wife using her money to help out her sister if that is what she wants to do and that it is completely up to her.

The other story in this episode is that Ed has gotten himself a drone to beef-up security there at Outdoor Man while Chuck is away. It was a nice touch that they had Jen piloting the drone since it gets her involved in the story and Mike’s business.

I especially like what Jen says to justify her piloting the drone and working on Ed’s crazy security plan, which is, “I’m from Hong Kong, the land of eight million cameras and no crime. Coincidence?” What’s even funnier is the first person that she spies on is a pregnant lady who runs out of the story being scared by the drone watching her.

The drone finds its way into Kristin’s restaurant, the Outdoor Man Grill, where Kristin has to basically shoo it away. Later on, Kristin would knock it out of the air with a baseball bat, breaking it to pieces. She does apologize to Ed about it. Ed tells her that it is not necessary and that he has found another way to improve security there at the store…which is a security robot that freaks Kristin out.

Overall, I’d give this episode 4/4 stars. It has the right story and the right kind of humor, and a perfect way to end the hour-long bloc of LMS episodes.

This Friday, LMS is new again on FOX with a new episode called “Arrest Her Development.” It is supposed to be about Vanessa helping Mandy and Kyle find their first apartment. Mike, on the other hand, will be looking at Ryan’s pot shop and complimenting him on his good business decisions. Also, could Ryan…the big liberal we have known for 6.5 seasons…actually be embracing capitalism?

Find out this Friday (February 22, 2019) on a brand new episode of Last Man Standing!
